The Rev. Beth W. Hixon
Beth has been a priest in the Diocese of Pennsylvania since graduating from The General Theological Seminary in 1997. Before accepting a call to Church of the Epiphany, she served three parishes as Associate Rector. A former clinical nurse specialist and nursing educator, Beth brings with her a wealth of clinical, teaching and group process experience from her 20 year career as a professional nurse.
She considers her love of God and God’s people and the work of reconciliation and healing among her most important priestly gifts. She understands and enjoys a great many expressions of the liturgy and music of the church and is deeply committed to challenging and supporting baptismal identity formation and ministries of all who seek God and a deeper knowledge of and relationship with God. The July 26, 2014 Philadelphia celebration of the 40th anniversary of the priestly ordination of women was coordinated by Beth.
Beth was married to Bill Hixon for 35 years. He died in April of 2012 after a6-month struggle with cancer. Their daughter, Victoria’s oldest son, Zachary, now age 10, has been in her care since early 2011 and resides with her in her Montgomery Township home. Beth enjoys working with Zach on his homework, accompanying him to Cub Scouts and reading with him. As a single, employed grandparent, Beth doesn’t have much discretionary time. Spending time with family, reading, camping, needlework and tennis have all been important pathways to a balanced and fruit-filled life.
