History
Epiphany was first established as a mission in Royersford by interested people who were organized by the Rector of Christ Church, Pottstown. On the Feast of Epiphany 1889, the first worship service was held in a private meeting hall.
During 1896 land was purchased at Third and Washington Streets and the first church building was erected. The adjoining rectory was constructed in 1902; it was financed by the Advent offerings of the children of the Diocese of Pennsylvania. A sudden fire in 1903 destroyed the original church building. With insurance and contributions from many sources, a new building (the one standing today) was constructed and consecrated on February 2, 1905. The Education Building was added in 1960.
Prior to 1903, the Convocation of Norristown had been responsible for the operation of Epiphany. This responsibility passed to St. Peter's Church Phoenixville, during 1903 to 1922, then back to Norristown. For years after that date, the mission struggled to stay open while their membership fluctuated.
Finally in 1972, the Convention of the Diocese of Pennsylvania accepted parochial status, thus establishing Church of the Epiphany as a parish rather than a mission. The Rev. Dennis H. Warner became the first rector in September 1973.
